Our founder, Ron, began his path to nutritious plant-based cooking after a routine visit to his doctor. The doctor advised him that being overweight and a lack of exercise had made him pre-diabetic. Ron had to make some immediate lifestyle changes to get control of his health.
Right away, Ron unlocked his inner foodie and became immersed in the world of nutrition, cooking, and health. He studied and researched many aspects of our Western food system and came to realize that the best way to address his health situation was to switch to a plant-based diet rich in complex carbs, high fibre, high protein, and nutrient-dense foods.
A plant-based diet helped Ron and his family on several fronts. First, it meant that they were all eating healthier, more nutrient-rich foods. Second, it helped Ron naturally recalibrate his body. Third, it helped him lose weight. Fourth, he learned that a plant-based diet is an environmentally friendly and ethical approach to eating.
As Ron began to lose weight, recalibrate his system, and feel better, he realized that there is a whole world out there that can benefit from a plant-based diet. Within a year Ron launched SUUP Health Bar in downtown Toronto. This led to the purchase of a manufacturing facility, an incubator for innovation of the high-quality foods we prepare and serve. To this day, our kitchens bring in raw, responsibly sourced local and globally sourced ingredients that create our nourishing, revitalizing, and rejuvenating foods.
